On December 23,the Sino-foreign joint archaeological project work meeting was held in Beijing.Representatives from the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,the National Museum of China,the Underwater Cultural Heritage Protection Center of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and other archaeological research institutions and universities attended the meeting.Song Xinchao,deputy director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage,attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

According to preliminary statistics,in 2019,my country launched 46 Sino-foreign joint archaeological projects,including 38 overseas archaeological projects,8 archaeological projects with foreign archaeological teams in China;33 continuity projects and 13 new projects;involving Asia,There are more than 40 foreign scientific research institutions,museums,universities,etc.in more than 20 countries in Africa,Europe,and the Americas.China’s joint archaeological work abroad closely focuses on the theme of“One Belt One Road”humanities exchanges,focusing on Central Asia,Mongolia,Russia and other areas along the Silk Road.It actively conducts archaeological investigations,site excavations and special studies with partner countries,fully demonstrating Material exchange,ethnic migration,ideological integration and civilization interaction on the ancient Silk Road.The Sino-Mongolian archaeological project at the No.2 cemetery in Gaolemaodu,Houhangai Province,Mongolia found that household utensils,carriages and weapons,and the types of utensils,decorative styles and craftsmanship reflect the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures.China has cooperated with Kyrgyzstan,Tajikistan,Uzbekistan and other countries to carry out archaeological research projects in the Western Tianshan Mountains,searching for the ancient Yueshi who moved west to Central Asia,and obtained a batch of new archaeological materials.At the same time,scientific research institutions in the four countries have formed a good exchange mechanism and cooperation framework,deepening the effectiveness of the Silk Road joint heritage application.In addition,the China-Cambodia cooperation in the archaeological and protection project of the Royal Palace of Angkor in Cambodia and the Sino-Uzbek cooperation in the archaeological project of the ancient city of Mintepe in Uzbekistan are progressing smoothly,providing an important basis for the subsequent preservation,maintenance,display and utilization of cultural relics,and effectively promoting Asian cultural heritage Protection action.China-Kenya cooperation Kenya Bogoria Lake archaeological project,China-Egypt cooperation Egypt Luxor Mengtu temple archaeological project,China-Hong Kong cooperation Honduras Maya Copan archaeological project,China-Saudi Arabia cooperation archaeological project of Port Salin,etc.,involving human origin Academic hotspot issues such as the study of ancient civilizations in the world will help to objectively understand the historical status and role of Chinese civilization from the macro perspective of the formation and development of human civilization,and promote exchanges and mutual learning among world civilizations.
While"going out",China actively welcomes scholars from various countries to come to China to carry out cooperative research.Sino-US cooperation in Liaoning Hongshan cultural research,Gansu Tao River basin survey,Sichuan Jiuzhaigou area archaeological research,Hubei Panlongcheng site archaeological excavation and Shaanxi Yangguanzhai site field archaeology training course,China-Israel cooperation Shandong Mi River basin survey,China-Japan Cooperative research on bronze mirrors in the Han Dynasty and research on unearthed relics from the Sanyan culture has progressed smoothly.Chinese archaeological discoveries and archaeological materials have attracted the attention of foreign scholars,which more comprehensively demonstrate the charm of Chinese civilization and the academic research level of contemporary China.
Song Xinchao pointed out in his speech that the joint archaeological work between China and foreign countries is progressing smoothly in 2019,with fruitful results.All units closely focus on the theme of"Belt and Road"humanities exchanges,serve the overall situation of the country,promote international academic interaction with archaeological research,and enhance mutual understanding among peoples of all countries.At present,China is actively participating in international governance,actively promoting the protection of Asian cultural heritage,and consciously assuming international responsibilities.All units must clarify the positioning of the joint archaeological work between China and foreign countries,focus on“Belt and Road”archaeology,archaeology in neighboring countries and regions,and comparative studies of ancient civilizations of the world,strengthen overall planning,carry out multidisciplinary cooperation,focus on personnel training,and ensure the level of archaeological research.Exchanges promote bilateral and multilateral cultural interactions,making each project a cultural highlight that enhances mutual trust among people of all countries.(Xu Xiuli)
